Dan McGarrah
Description
BIO: Dan McGarrah grew up in Pennsylvania. In 1978 he enrolled at Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara, graduating with a B.A. in 1981. Subsequently, he had a career in advertising photography. After retiring from that in 2017 McGarrah started pursuing the creation of Photo-Based abstract artworks. Then a 2020 Grand Mal Seizure has left him with a somewhat amorphous cognizance of the ‘external world’, amplifying his penchant for abstraction.
Artist’s Statement: I take digital photos of plants or leaves, then do extensive manipulation (via PhotoShop, so far) to create an abstract artwork. My photo-based abstract artworks are created to be reflective of various mental activities. I then offer archival limited edition inkjet prints, primarily on canvas, including large-scale. My photo-based abstract artworks are created to be reflective of various mental activities, conscious and subconscious. Importantly, I always strive to create art that has strong emotional and/or intellectual impact, and is timeless - so it can be equally considered a couple hundred years from now.
