Gill_Special-Report_300_edited-1

Sonia Gill

Light is almost always my subject. Recently I have been exploring the circles and ovals of my cups and bowls using paper as a "painting medium". These portraits of my favorite dishes are very abstract yet realistic. One can see that these dishes are drying by the side of the sink yet the subject matter is really the light and the shadows that are created by its play on the objects. Reflections and distortions in these vessels are created reminding us of our complex relationships to each other, to other living beings, and to the natural and fabricated worlds we live in.
