Studio Umbralux

Layil Umbralux creates paintings and drawings as meditations that record the passage of time, the transformation of being, and the beauty of the natural world. She works primarily in oil paint, graphite, and gold leaf, preferring the multi-sensory experience and timelessness of analogue materials. She explores mythology, spirituality and the Natural Sciences in her work, using the visible to communicate the unseen.

Layil Umbralux is a Fine Artist based out of the Bay Area, working primarily in oil paint, graphite and gold leaf. She has a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, and training in the classical atelier method of representational drawing and painting. Her work explores her personal observations and journeys, interfacing with nature’s forms in allegory, and upholding Beauty as Ideal. Her techniques draw from the traditional Academic methods of the 19th Century, focusing on creating realistic images using observation and skill. She also has a passion for preserving the uniqueness of the landscape by painting on location en plein air, recording the uniqueness of a time and place, as our wild spaced fall prey to the impact of human presence.
