Peter Theron

My current work includes sculptures and paintings that reflect a combination of architectural geometry and organic forms. I am interested in what makes some symbols timeless, universal icons that transcends cultures, and also, how imagery is shaped by the prevailing aesthetic lens of a given time. In my sculpture practice, I work on refining a shape until I feel that it resonates as a universal symbol. This often has to do with balance and proportion that is intuitively understood. The paintings are 10ft x 6.5ft. In this large format, scribbled lines or large brushstrokes become the details that describe the surface of the objects.
