Mittie Cuetara
I’ve always been a misfit, and my art has always been my identity, my way of processing and understanding the world. I’m drawn to the imperfections of lived-in lives, attracted by the odd and messy paths that humans create for themselves.
In highlighting the architecture of the familiar, I look for new ways to see and appreciate our common understandings. I look for issues of identity and community in the tension between the built environment and the natural world.
My paintings are fictional, fantastic, hopeful. I deal with issues of loneliness and isolation by creating bright future visions of peace and calm, the world I want to live in.
I want the language of paint to create new connections and community.
