Laura Mitsu

ARTIST STATEMENT:
I'm Laura Mitsu, a self-taught abstract artist based in Oakland. My work is an intuitive expression of emotion and a journey of self-discovery, where curiosity and experimentation guide my creative process, often leading to joyful, unexpected outcomes. Many of my paintings are paired with original poems that explore themes of self-love, self-acceptance, connection, and transformation. Through my art, I aim to help you feel seen by capturing and expressing the emotions and experiences that resonate within us all. My mission is to remind you to live fully, deeply, and authentically—because tomorrow isn’t guaranteed to any of us.

BIO:
A self-taught artist based in Oakland, Laura Mitsu originally started in the culinary arts, working as a line cook and sous chef for almost a decade in both southern CA and NYC. Her love of making art with her hands carried over into pursuing visual art full-time as a painter in 2022. Mitsu's work resides in private collections across the US and internationally. Her abstract paintings have been featured in multiple editions of House & Garden UK Magazine in the fall of 2022, and her work has been displayed in juried shows in the Bay Area and online. Mitsu’s debut solo exhibition "Poetic Abstraction" was held in April/May 2024 at 2358 MRKT Gallery in San Francisco, CA.
