Brittany Maxson
Artist statement:
In my photography, I seek to capture the relationship between gender, sexuality and overall queerness. I am drawn to the diversity of queer bodies and want to highlight the beauty within queer folks, despite what the larger society may think or feel, we are beautiful. I truly hope that this work touches the viewers and inspires all people to stand firm in who they are.
Bio:
I have been a freelance photographer for 15 years. I am a San Francisco State University alumna. Living in Oakland with my two pups Shuri & Nova and my cat Cali. This journey started in 2007 when I took my first photography course, The Fundamentals of Film. Once I had the appreciation and understanding of film I got into landscape photography. While exploring landscape photography I was so aware of the textures and colors in our world. The love for film and the fascination with landscape led to a love of portraiture photography. My style of portraiture allows me to capture individuals and groups in a natural and relaxed state. The most rewarding part of this work is showing someone a picture of themselves in a light that they didn't see.
