Alex D. da Silva
Description
"I remember accompanying my father - Quirino da Silva, a long-established artist who was an older man when Alex was born - on outings to the coast and the outskirts of São Paulo to paint. My brief apprenticeship with him was marked by visits to his friends at their studios, full of objects a child shouldn’t touch and the air strongly scented of turpentine".
Alex is inspired by changing landscapes, whether by people or nature itself. Composing images from different times and places, he creates a reflection of these elements. The goal is to question the typical memories and narratives associated with these occupations. Rarely does the final result resemble his initial vision, for the process is to find harmony and conflict through editing, but also embracing the random mark and permitting the paint to go wherever it chooses.
