Isadora Gullov-Singh
Description
A mixed-media artist based in Berkeley, CA, Isadora Gullov-Singh creates abstract minimalist art as an antidote to a hectic modern life. Her work considers the interplay of nature and architecture in evoking memories and emotions. Especially drawn to the interaction of organic and geometric elements in the natural and the built environment she distills ideas and reduces them to an intuitive essence, balancing strength with quiet, scale with intimacy, and linear structure with soft modulation to create moments for contemplation. While grids and lines emerge as a visual framework, shifting rhythms and saturation invite viewers to tap into their subconscious. Finding rhythm, order and harmony is also a grounding practice that responds to her experience growing up relocating constantly across four continents. In her work, she uses different media as partners in expression, their material qualities infusing her work with their own sensibility. Gullov-Singh earned my BA from Columbia University, where she studied Political Science, along with Art History/Visual Art. After years in the corporate world and raising her two boys, spurred by the pandemic, she returned to her art practice in 2020 with a new sense of perspective, informed by her multicultural background and a lifetime of experience. Her work has been featured in solo, small group, and juried shows across the Bay Area.
