East Bay Open Studios (EBOS) is a multi-weekend event that invites the public to experience art where it happens—inside artist studios, galleries, cultural hubs, and unexpected spaces. Since its inception, EBOS has been a free, family-friendly, self-guided tour showcasing the diverse creative talent of the East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties). Check it out twice a year in Summer and Winter!

Each year, EBOS connects hundreds of artists with thousands of visitors across 12 cities, offering an immersive look into the work of painters, sculptors, ceramicists, glass and metal artists, fiber artists, and multimedia creators. More than an art event, EBOS sustains visual culture, fosters creative placemaking, and deepens appreciation for the region’s rich artistic communities.

Any visual artist—at any stage of their career—who has a studio or exhibition space in Alameda or Contra Costa County is invited to participate. EBOS is a non-juried event, ensuring that all artists, from emerging to established, have an equal opportunity to share and sell their work, connect with the public, and be part of a vibrant creative experience.

Established 50 years ago under the Alameda County Neighborhood Arts Program (later ProArts), EBOS was among the first open studio programs in the country. Today, Oakland Art Murmur proudly stewards this beloved tradition, ensuring its legacy and impact continue to grow.

WHY OAKLAND ART MURMUR?

Established in 2006, Oakland Art Murmur (OAM), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supports and promotes visual artists and arts venues while connecting the public to the vibrant and eclectic art of the East Bay. OAM envisions an East Bay where visual culture thrives, and artists and arts spaces are sustained through arts-based economic vitality.

As a champion of the region’s visual arts, OAM is honored to steward East Bay Open Studios (EBOS), ensuring that this long-standing tradition continues to serve artists and engage the community. By integrating EBOS into our programming, we expand opportunities for artists at all career levels, strengthen connections between creators and audiences, and reinforce the East Bay’s reputation as a dynamic arts hub.

We Believe:

  • A vibrant arts community directly contributes to the East Bay’s economic and cultural vitality.

  • Artists and arts workers are empowered when supported by a dedicated arts organization.

  • Increasing an artist’s exposure translates into greater resources and opportunities.

  • A strong, connected artist community fosters collaboration, growth, and sustainability.

  • Supporting diversity in the arts strengthens the entire visual arts ecosystem.

By stewarding EBOS, Oakland Art Murmur upholds these values, fostering an inclusive, accessible, and thriving arts landscape for all.
