The East Bay Open Studios is Alive and Well!

An East Bay Tradition for Over 40 Years.

The Annual East Bay Open Studios Event has been an ongoing tradition in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 40 years. Formerly organized by Pro Arts, a non-profit art organization based in Oakland, the event is now produced by Dream World Media led by Carolyn Quan, an award-winning, internationally-collected fine artist, and artist advocate.

Open Studios are free self-guided tours of artist studios and exhibition spaces. Artists pay a registration fee to participate and the event is free for the public to enjoy.

The art-loving, art-buying public enjoys one-on-one interactions with the artists and artisans and have the opportunity to learn about what inspires the artists, connect with the artists one-on-one and purchase art directly from the artists. Artist venues can range from gallery settings, art studios, home studios, outdoor venues and other alternative exhibition spaces. Many artists serve refreshments, some give live demonstrations and some may even have live music.

Printed guidebooks and online artist directories guide visitors to the artist studios and exhibition spaces around the entire East Bay where the participating artists show. During the event, there are street signs directing you to artist locations. The event is a great opportunity for artists and art collectors to connect one-on-one with one another in interesting and inspiring environments.

The Opening Celebration/Preview Exhibition and After-Party are new to this year’s East Bay Open Studios Event and will inspire you on many levels.

Held at the gorgeous, historical, Beaux-Arts landmark building, the 16th Street Train Station, in West Oakland, the venue and the artists that will be showing their work to the public at our Opening will open your mind and hearts to what is possible in this creative world that we live in.

Over 100 of our 2017 participating artists will feature their best work for our guests to preview, each in their own dedicated space in 3 different areas of the venue. Our guests then preview the art to help design their self-guided tours of the artist studios and exhibition spaces the following weekends after the Opening. Printed guidebooks will be available and there will be live music, a cash bar and food options and a rare and wonderful opportunity to meet over 100 artists in person and engage in conversation while enjoying an evening of their diverse range of art and inspiration. The Preview Exhibition will be held from 6 pm – 9 pm and is by invitation only. Stay tuned for details on this page at a later date, about how to be added to our guest list and receive an invitation.

From 9 pm to midnight is the After-Party sponsored by Salle des Artistes, when the volume will be turned up as the space transforms into a dance floor and performance space for our live musicians and performers to take the stage and for the public and the artists in the event to enjoy. There will be a cash bar and food options. Donations requested to support the performers.
